Eyebrow Shaping in Munich: Methods, Costs & Expert Tips

Which method suits your eyebrows? MONLIS experts explain tweezing, threading, waxing and brow lifting — with honest cost overview and aftercare tips.

Why eyebrows change your face more than any makeup

One millimeter higher, and the gaze looks more awake. One millimeter too many removed, and the face loses its frame. Eyebrows are among the facial features we underestimate the most — until we experience what professional shaping can do.

In Munich, there are now dozens of studios that shape eyebrows. The range goes from quick tweezing at the hairdresser to detailed architecture at specialized brow bars. But not every method works for every skin type, hair structure, and lifestyle. That is exactly what this guide covers.

The five most common methods at a glance

Classic tweezing

The most widespread technique — and the one where the most can go wrong. During professional tweezing, the stylist removes individual hairs precisely with angled tweezers. The advantage: high precision, no materials needed, and the method suits sensitive skin that reacts to wax with redness.

The downside: tweezing takes longer than waxing or threading, and with very dense growth, a session can take 20 to 30 minutes. Those who come regularly every three to four weeks reduce the time noticeably.

Tip: If you want to remove stray hairs at home between appointments — stick to the area below the brow and never tweeze above the arch. Hair there often grows back unevenly.

Threading technique

Threading originates from South Asia and has become established in Munich over recent years. A cotton thread is twisted into a loop and rolled over the skin. The hairs catch in the thread and are pulled out with the root.

It sounds uncomfortable but goes surprisingly fast: a complete shaping often takes only eight to twelve minutes. The method works especially well for fine hairs and the peach fuzz between the brows that tweezers struggle to grip.

For allergy sufferers, threading is interesting because no wax, gel, or chemicals touch the skin — just cotton and the skill of the stylist.

Waxing

Waxing removes multiple hairs simultaneously and is well suited when the brows are significantly overgrown or a clean contour cut is desired. Warm wax is applied thinly, pulled off with a fabric strip — done.

Skin redness after waxing lasts 30 to 60 minutes for most clients. Those with sensitive or couperose-prone skin should opt for tweezing or threading instead. Waxing is also not advisable directly after a chemical peel or while taking retinoids.

Brow lifting (eyebrow lamination)

Brow lifting is not shaping in the traditional sense but a treatment that redirects existing hair into a new growth direction. The brow hairs are softened with a keratin-based solution, combed into the desired direction, and fixed. The result lasts six to eight weeks.

Brow lifting works especially well for women whose brows grow stubbornly in different directions, or for anyone who does not want to use a brow pencil every morning. The brows look fuller, more even, and more groomed — without removing or adding any hair.

Often, brow lifting is combined with a shape correction and tinting. This combination is called complete eyebrow architecture.

From our practice: Many clients come initially for a simple shape correction — and then discover that brow lifting gives their brows exactly the volume that makeup alone cannot achieve. Especially with fine, light-colored hair, lamination makes a visible difference.

Eyebrow tinting

Tinting is technically not shaping, but it significantly enhances the visual effect of every other method. A semi-permanent color covers even fine, nearly invisible hairs and makes the brow look fuller and more defined.

The color lasts on hair for about three to four weeks, on skin as a slight shadow for about five to seven days. If you are allergic to certain dyes, do a patch test beforehand — reputable studios offer this as standard.

Which method suits whom? An honest assessment

Method Suited for Less suited for Duration
Tweezing Sensitive skin, detail work Very dense brows 15–30 min
Threading Fine hairs, allergy sufferers Very short hairs 8–12 min
Waxing Dense brows, clean contour Sensitive/couperose skin 5–10 min
Brow lifting Unruly, fine hair Acute skin irritations 45–60 min
Tinting Light or thin brows Known dye allergy 15–20 min

Often a combination works best. In our MONLIS studios, we start most appointments with a brief analysis: face shape, natural brow direction, hair color, skin sensitivity. Only then do we decide together with you which method delivers the best result.

What eyebrow shaping costs in Munich

The price range in Munich is wide: at the hairdresser, quick tweezing costs 10 to 15 euros. Specialized brow bars charge 25 to 50 euros for architecture with tinting. Brow lifting with lamination runs 50 to 70 euros, depending on the studio and scope.

What matters most is the stylist’s experience. A poorly placed brow takes weeks to grow back. Ask for before-and-after photos or read reviews before choosing a studio.

Before your appointment: what to keep in mind

The most important rule: let your brows grow for at least two, preferably three weeks before the appointment. The more hair the stylist has to work with, the more precisely she can shape the new form.

  • Avoid heavily greasy creams in the brow area on appointment day — they make gripping hairs harder.
  • If you use retinol products: stop three days before, especially if waxing is planned.
  • Caffeine constricts blood vessels and can make tweezing slightly less uncomfortable — an espresso beforehand does not hurt.
  • Bring photos you like. Not as a template to copy, but as a conversation starter with your stylist.

After shaping: care and common mistakes

The skin around the eyebrows usually calms down within a few hours. Still, avoid these in the first 24 hours:

  • Direct sun exposure on the brow area
  • Swimming pool, sauna, or steam bath
  • Exfoliating products near the brows
  • Heavy makeup directly on the shaped areas

After that, we recommend treating the brows once daily with a nourishing oil (castor oil, argan oil, or a specialized brow serum). This keeps hairs supple and supports even regrowth.

The most common mistake between appointments: over-tweezing at home. Especially above the brow, many reach for the tweezers too quickly — changing the overall shape. When in doubt: leave it.

How to recognize a good brow studio

  • Consultation before treatment: A good stylist analyzes your face before starting. If tweezing begins immediately without questions, the individual approach is missing.
  • Hygiene: Fresh tweezers, disinfected surfaces, disposable materials for waxing.
  • Experience with multiple methods: A studio offering only one technique adapts the method to you — not you to the method.
  • Transparent pricing: You should know what the treatment costs before the appointment.

Eyebrow shaping at MONLIS: how our stylists work

In our three Munich studios — at Goetheplatz, Karlstraße, and Westpark — eyebrows are among the most frequently booked treatments. Our stylists master all methods described here and combine them depending on each situation.

A typical appointment for eyebrow architecture takes about 30 to 45 minutes and includes:

  1. Face shape analysis and discussion of your wishes
  2. Proportion measurement (brow start, highest point, end)
  3. Shaping with the chosen method
  4. If needed: tinting for more definition
  5. Final care and tips for home

If you have never had your brows professionally shaped, we recommend a first appointment with consultation. We will discuss your vision, show you possibilities, and find out together which shape and method suit you best.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Every three to four weeks is a good rhythm. Between appointments, we recommend not tweezing stray hairs yourself so your stylist can create a clean overall shape at your next visit.

It depends on the method. Many find threading briefly uncomfortable, waxing is quick, and brow lifting is practically painless. After a few appointments, the skin adjusts noticeably.

A basic shape correction starts at around 15 euros. Architecture with tinting ranges from 25 to 45 euros. Brow lifting with lamination is around 55 to 65 euros. Exact prices are available when booking.

Round faces benefit from a slightly raised arch, oval faces suit almost any shape, and angular faces look more harmonious with soft, flat arches. An experienced stylist measures your proportions and suggests the right shape.
